AUB Fingerprints Program

"More than 60 percent of the students who graduated from the American University of Beirut in 2009 left their mark by making a donation of at least $25 to the Fingerprints Endowed Scholarship Fund. The University Student Faculty Committee (USFC) stepped forward once again to match the $36,517 that 1,098 graduating students donated, bringing the grand total in 2009 to around $110,000. The Fingerprints Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2002 by students who wanted to lend a helping hand to their classmates who were struggling financially. The proceeds from the Fund benefit AUB students. The number of graduating students contributing to the fund has increased steadily over the years from just 24 percent of the graduating class in 2002, to more than 60 percent in 2009. Students contributing to the fund do so knowing that their donations will be matched by the USFC and often by generous AUB trustees as well. They also contribute knowing that by doing so, they are making it a little easier for other AUB students to enjoy the unique AUB experience that they value so much. So far, 64 AUB students have received financial assistance from the Fingerprints Endowed Scholarship Fund. Because this is an endowed fund, the money that is contributed by graduating students, the USFC, and AUB trustees, which now totals more than $900,000, is invested. Only the income that the fund earns is distributed thereby ensuring that there will always be a Fingerprints Endowed Scholarship Fund at AUB – a permanent memorial to the generosity of AUB students."
